FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Solenis recognized Guizhou Phosphate Chemical Group with a 2022 Solenis Sustainability Award for an antiscalant project that led to a reduction in CO2 emissions of 3,000 tons per year.
WILMINGTON, Del. (USA) – Solenis LLC, a leading global producer of specialty chemicals, is proud to announce that Guizhou Phosphate Chemical Group (formerly Wengfu Group), a leader in the phosphate chemical industry based in Guiyang, Guizhou, China, is among the winners of a 2022 Solenis Sustainability Award. Guizhou Phosphate Chemical Group is being recognized for a project that led to a reduction in CO2 emissions of 3,000 tons per year using Solenis’ Zalta™ antiscalant program.
The Solenis Sustainability Award recognizes specific and verifiable customer projects that have, over a period of 12 months, delivered measurable results against one of five sustainability indicators: reduced water use, reduced energy consumption, decreased greenhouse gas emissions, optimized raw material utilization, or reduced waste.
Zalta antiscalants have been used extensively in mining operations around the world, but they have only recently been introduced in phosphoric acid production, which typically encounters scaling during evaporation when deposits accumulate on equipment such as heat exchangers. Solenis’ Zalta™ antiscalants significantly reduce scaling in phosphoric acid processing operations, leading to improved evaporator performance, reduced cleaning time, and increased production throughput.
“This project was particularly rewarding,” notes Ted Kelly, Solenis’ Vice President and GM for Asia Pacific, “because it was our first opportunity to demonstrate the value of Zalta antiscalants in a major phosphoric acid processing enterprise. Working with the team at Guizhou Phosphate Chemical Group was a true collaboration drawing upon the expertise of facility engineers and Solenis’ network of field professionals and application specialists.”
Using Zalta™ antiscanlant in the phosphoric acid process, the Guizhou Phosphate Chemical Group was able to see all of these benefits and more. The advanced control of scaling extended each production cycle time by over 80% and enhanced annual output by more than 15%. The end result was a productivity improvement valued at more than $27 million per year, including reduced energy use (steam usage).
In addition to the significant financial savings, the phosphate producer also saw a significant sustainability impact after implementing the Zalta antiscalant program. In one year, the operation recorded water savings of 27,900 cubic meters, power savings of 21,360 kWh, and, most notably, a carbon footprint reduction of 2,957 tons.
According to Mr. Zhang Xiaohong, Vice General Manager of Guizhou Phosphate Chemical, Wengfu Group, “As the world’s largest purified wet phosphoric acid producer, we have a tremendous responsibility to reduce downtime and improve throughput and productivity. At the same time, we also have a responsibility to protect the planet we share with others. Zalta antiscalants from Solenis enabled us to hit both our financial and sustainability targets.”
Since its founding in 2020, the Solenis Sustainability Award program has recognized six customer projects that have positively impacted the planet. To learn more about the Sustainability Award program at Solenis, please visit www.solenis.com.
