Solenis to own patents and patent-related intellectual property pertaining to method
WILMINGTON, Del. (USA) — Solenis, a leading global producer of specialty chemicals, has resolved a patent dispute with Superior Oil Company over methods for using chemical additives to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of corn oil extraction in fuel ethanol production.
Under the agreement, Solenis owns all patent and patent-related intellectual property pertaining to its DimensionTM corn oil extraction aids and the methods for their use, and has the sole right to make, use, and offer for sale or sell its products and methods throughout the United States, including the use of variations of its patented chemical additives.
With this agreement, we can now focus on bringing value to the marketplace with our corn oil extraction aids and our other innovative technologies for this market, said John Panichella, Solenis president and CEO.
In addition to helping provide up to three times more corn oil yield, Solenis' DimensionTM corn oil extraction aids also reduce solids in the oil, resulting in cleaner, higher quality oil. The extraction aids, which are easily introduced into the fuel ethanol production process, have also been shown to reduce system deposition, resulting in less downtime for system cleaning and maintenance.
Dimension TM corn oil extraction aids do not contain alkylphenol ethoxylates (APEs) or volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and are biodegradable, and generally recognized as safe (GRAS) when coproducts from the ethanol manufacturing process are used in livestock feed.
Solenis received a U.S. patent (Patent No. 8,841,469) for its polysorbate-based corn oil extraction method on September 23, 2014, after first filing a provisional U.S. patent application in March 2011.
