Building care and cleaning teams who want to make their processes more sustainable will
typically have a number of objectives in mind. Things such as improving safety, simplifying
processes, eliminating waste, reducing CO2 emissions, energy savings, and promoting
consistency. There are already many products that support some or all of these objectives.
But cleaning teams that are looking for the best possible gains will also want to consider the
formulation of the products and how they are manufactured and supplied. Diversey's SURE
range of plant-based, 100 per cent biodegradable cleaning products meets both sets of
objectives. Since its introduction, this highly sustainable range has been widely adopted by
cleaning teams of all sizes for their daily building care, kitchen care, and washroom cleaning
tasks. SURE is featured in Diversey's ?Green, Greener, Greenest? theme at the Cleaning
Show.
Diversey has a long heritage of supporting environmental initiatives and developing products
with a high sustainability profile. Its ranges include hundreds of products that fulfil demanding
criteria and are accredited or certified to one or more environmental or sustainable cleaning
standard.
As part of its ongoing investment in product development, Diversey asked customers what
they considered ?green? products. Almost a third said they should be based on natural
ingredients and a quarter said they should be eco-certified. From this research Diversey
recognised there are times when customers want to demonstrate the very highest levels of
environmental responsibility. This led to the development of the SURE range in 2016.
Each SURE product has been formulated to deliver superior professional results while
maximising safety and gentleness for people and the environment. The entire range is
manufactured from plant-based ingredients from renewable resources. These ingredients are
typically derived from by-products of the agri-food industry, originating from sugar beet,
maize, straw bran, and wheat bran. The products contain no artificial dyes, perfumes, quats,
chlorine, phosphates, or oxide compounds. This means they generally have lower safety
classifications than conventional alternatives. No products in the range carry eco-hazard
labels. Nor do they require safety warnings on products in use.
The range includes products covering all routine kitchen hygiene tasks including hand
dishwashing, general surface cleaning, appliance and surface degreasing and descaling,
glass and grill cleaning, and surface sanitising and disinfection. Products for washrooms
cover daily cleaning, descaling, toilet cleaning, and floor cleaning.
For personal care the range includes antibacterial and conventional hand care products including soaps, hand
washes and sanitisers.
The SURE range has been certified Gold by the Cradle-to-Cradle Products Innovation
Institute. This is one of the toughest and highest acclaimed international environmental
certifications available, utilising demanding measures of safer, more sustainable products
made for a circular economy. SURE products also meet typical eco-certification criteria and
where applicable are all EU Ecolabel certified.
To become Cradle to Cradle Certified the SURE products had to meet stringent criteria. They
were assessed for environmental and social performance across five critical sustainability
categories: material health, material reuse, renewable energy and carbon management,
water stewardship, and social fairness. A product is assigned an achievement level (Basic,
Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum) for each category. A product's lowest category achievement
also represents its overall certification level. In other words, the SURE products met or
exceeded the gold standard in every category. The standard requires certification renewal
every two years.
The SURE range meets a particular requirement from the market. Diversey enhances the
sustainability credentials of the range by offering many of the products in its unique dosing
and dispensing systems: SmartDose, QuattroSelect, Divermite, Soft Care Line, AceCare
and, and IntelliCare.
With each of these, water is only added at the point of use which means smaller packs are
required to support the same cleaning operation. This reduces packaging requirements as
well as minimising transport, handling, storage, and recycling burdens. Moreover, because
these platforms enable accurate and consistent preparation of high-performance solutions
there is less wastage or need for repeat cleaning, all of which improves productivity and
saves time and money. Some products are also available in 750ml ready-to-use spray
bottles, one-litre bottles, 500ml pump bottles, and five-litre canisters.
A selection of Products in the SURE range are now supplied in PCR (post consumer
recycled) plastics packaging and overall all packaging across the range can itself be
recycled. Careful design of the packs also means that components can be separated more
easily for sorting and processing through different recycling streams.
The combination of the formulation and packaging makes the SURE range very safe and
easy to use. This makes it easier and fast to introduce the products into any operation with
reduced costs and minimal disruption. It also means that new team members can be brought
up to speed and working safely, quickly, and productively in the shortest possible time. As
with all its products, Diversey also offers a complete set of mini user guides and simple,
color-coded labels to help ensure correct product use and simplify implementation.
The SURE range forms part of the Diversey ?Green, Greener, Greenest? display on Stand
E30 at The Cleaning Show. Other sustainable products and services featured on the stand
include the TASKI Swingo 250 and TASKI ULTIMAXX scrubber driers, the SafePack
ultra concentrate system, and a full range of washcraft ? warewashing and laundry ?
solutions, and washroom services.
