Diversey recently published a peer-reviewed study in InfectionControl.TIPS on how respiratory viruses are a global health concern and the significant gaps that exist in our understanding of how they are transmitted.
The study explains the ?Chain of Infection? Model. While person to person transmission of respiratory droplets during close contact are the most likely route of transmission, transmission via surfaces has been demonstrated in the technical literature for a number of respiratory viruses, including SARS-CoV-2.
Surface cleaning and disinfection remain an important intervention for public facilities because it can provide an incremental hygiene benefit across a wide range of facility contexts and this is evident in a wide range of CDC and WHO publications for commercial facilities which encourage cleaning and disinfection of environmental surfaces.
